One of the readers of my blog asked which state in the US is the most heavily infested with termites. The Southern states are experiencing the worst termite infestations, mostly because of high moisture and moderate temperatures in the states. Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama are well known for heavy termite infestations among other states.

Unfortunately, houses and buildings in every state in the US except Alaska are experiencing termite damages. In the United States, about 85%-90% of all termite damage is caused by Subterranean termites. Subterranean termites are well known as the most destructive wood-feeding insect in many states. They not only feed on dead trees, but these termites feed on virtually anything including pine lumber, fabrics, papers, fences, flowers, and crops. These termites are deadly. Some say Subterranean termite damage exceeds $5 billion every year in the United States.
Termites can be a problem in any state in the United States, as all states have some species of termites. However, some states may have a higher incidence of termite infestations due to factors such as the climate, the availability of wood for the termites to feed on, and the presence of conducive conditions, such as a high moisture content in the soil.
States that are generally considered to have a higher incidence of termite infestations include:
- California: California has a warm, dry climate that is conducive to termites, and the state has several species of termites that can cause damage to homes and other structures.
- Florida: Florida’s warm, humid climate is also conducive to termites, and the state has several species of termites that can be a problem.
- Texas: Texas has a warm, humid climate that is favorable for termites, and the state has several species of termites that can cause damage to homes and other structures.
- Louisiana: Louisiana’s warm, humid climate is also conducive to termites, and the state has several species of termites that can be a problem.
- Georgia: Georgia has a warm, humid climate that is favorable for termites, and the state has several species of termites that can cause damage to homes and other structures.
It is important to note that termites can be a problem in any state, and it is important to take preventive measures, such as removing any wood-to-soil contact and repairing leaks, to reduce the risk of a termite infestation.
